kria Entertainment is involved in motion picture production and distribution of
Indian and crossover films. Our first production venture was a commercial Indian ("Bollywood") film titled
"PadmaShree Laloo Prasad Yadav" (PLPY) which
was released worldwide in January 2005.
kria is in the midst of raising capital to produce and distribute
multiple films. Some of these films will be commercial Bollywood
films while others will be crossover projects. The crossover
films, which tend to have a smaller budget, are intended for a wider
audience than just South Asians and may even be in the English language
with some Hollywood talent (such as Monsoon Wedding, The Guru,
Bend It Like Beckham).
The
typical film production cycle is eight to twelve months and the
cash needs are spread out over this period. Hence, it is possible
to have several ongoing projects at any given time to maximize the
return on investment. Operationally, kria will capitalize on its
management experience to run the film production as a mainstream
US business by following standard business practices.
Currently, kria has three projects on the floor - Apraadh, Golmaal and a yet to be titled film with director David Dhawan (of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi fame). Apraadh is a thriller with director Sanjay Khanna and Golmaal is a comedy with director Sangeeth Sivan of Kyaa Kool Hai Hum fame.
On the distribution front, kria will maximize a film's exploitation by implementing strategic marketing campaigns. kria has already distributed several films including Sarkar, Dus, D, and Mumbai Xpress.
This will enable kria to emerge as the first US-based company that combines production, distribution and financing of Bollywood films, thus creating a studio environment.
